SUMMER CLASSIC: Hingham Coopers at Hingham Derbies at Derby Academy

This was the hottest game time on record for the Summer Classic but several  hundred fans watched the third annual July 4th Classic. This one was  played 1860s style, with no gloves and no crying. The Coopers started early  scoring twelve runs in the first few innings but the Derbies came back, sparked  by a grand slam from Pistol Pete Dickason and the fact that their beer ran out. The Derbies took the game in the bottom  of the ninth inning on a play-at-the-plate that could have gone either way.

Final score: Hingham  Derbies 13, Hingham Coopers 12. What a finish!
